In 2000, Arts Council England appointed me artist-in-residence at BBC Radio 1. Although that evolved into a DVJ practice, originally Radio 1 wanted someone to document the audience at their live events.
The SouthBank Centre commissioned this installation in the Royal Festival Hall. The lights hanging from the ceiling are part of the installation, and my hope was to somewhat recreate what I had seen every night, shooting from the stage at Radio 1 events.
A sonic element was also part of the installation, recreating the sound of walking across a festival field at 3am, with the sound of asynchronous bass pounding from several tents around you.
